Technology Specialist – Job Description
The Intercultural Development Research Association – a dynamic 501c3 non-profit organization whose mission is to create schools that work for all children – is seeking a highly-skilled, experienced technology specialist. Through professional development, training, technical assistance and community engagement, IDRA works with hundreds of thousands of people (from teachers to policymakers to community members) each year to carry out its mission. Technology is integral to this work: IDRA is a forward-looking organization that uses a diverse array of hardware, software and web-based applications. IDRA employs approximately 30 full-time staff at our
San Antonio
office and operates programs that benefit students in
Texas
, across the
United States
and in
Brazil
. This position would be located in
San Antonio
(not a telecommuting position).
As a full-time staff member, the technology specialist would play a key role in integrating technology both in organizational operations and in services – from the design, management and administration of online service delivery to desktop maintenance and software upgrades.
Primary Responsibilities
- Develop the technology-based tools and resources to support IDRA’s delivery of high quality services and information. Manage and administer online service delivery by IDRA staff, including courses (via: interactive teamsites, video conferences, webinars, and other technologies). Set up metrics to evaluate usefulness, quality of online services. Administer and manage upgrades of organizational website. Develop interactive features (such as: http://www.idra.org/wrapper/), set up SEO systems, support web maintenance and innovation.
- Problem-solve with organizational and program directors to meet emerging service delivery needs and identify integrated solutions.
- Maintain and upgrade desktop hardware and software. Promote safe and secure desktop environment (e.g., by coordinating backups, maintaining system security, and pro-actively identifying issues that effect network management and administration).
- Provide in-house training on hardware, software and trends and new applications of value to the organization and its constituents.
- Assist staff and clients as a technology resource.
- Report regularly on progress and outcomes and forecast approaches to meet emerging needs. Provide recommendations on technology purchases.
Knowledge and Skill Requirements
- Minimum of 3-5 years of experience administering and implementing open source and commercial web sites, teamsites and databases (Joomla, Moodle, Linux, SQL, Sharepoint)
- Demonstrated track record leading design and implementation of online service delivery and providing teaching/training on the effective use of applications (e.g., experience with: WebX, video conferencing, webinars, Skype, Dim Dim, Ning, etc.)
- Knowledge and application of Microsoft Office products, Photoshop or Fireworks, and Dreamweaver.
- Proven ability to troubleshoot desktop hardware and software issues in a PC environment and to either quickly resolve issues or recommend practical solutions.
- Demonstrated experience in database design and management, as well as event and course registration and online evaluation.
- Experience with audio and video editing.
- Keeps up with technology trends, particularly in the areas of online service delivery.
- Experience in teaching, training, education or related field.
- Ability to work independently and in collaboration with others and provide staff with timely support.

Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in mathematics education and a master’s degree with a specialization in education and/or math instruction.
- Elementary, high school or college teaching experience.
- Study and/or successful experience in working with minority student populations.

Mentor Teacher Consultant Position
IDRA consultant position available for a bilingual education teacher mentor in the Houston ISD area. The qualified candidate would possess a minimum of 10 years experience in a bilingual education teaching or supervisory position. The mentor teacher would conduct on-site pre- and post- visits to first and second year bilingual education teachers, provide ongoing mentorship to teachers through on-site visits or online mentoring. The mentor would provide strategies in bilingual education, lesson planning and classroom management and provide timely reports on visits to IDRA. Travel in the Houston area is required.
