What: Graduation Guaranteed/Graduación Garantizada –
Statewide Summit on School Holding Power

“State of the State” will be presented and community leaders from across the state will begin mapping out plans for local action to increase school holding power and student success. Participation is by invitation only. Media are welcome.

When:

Reception – Friday, November 4, 6:00 p.m.-8:00 p.m.
Plenary Session (“State of the State”) – November 5, 8:00 a.m.-11:30 a.m.

Where:

San Antonio , Texas
Friday Reception – UTSA Downtown Campus, 501 W. Durango Blvd
Saturday Session – Institute of Texan Cultures, 801 South Bowie Street

Why:

Our high schools lose more than one third of their students before graduation, and the cumulative impact of attrition affects every Texan. Most traditional dropout prevention efforts have not worked because most efforts inappropriately focus on student characteristics or focus on one element of a larger system. We must address systemic factors that lead to students dropping out. Communities and schools must work together to strengthen school holding power and ensure success for all students.

Also being released: “Quality Schools Action Framework,” developed by IDRA executive director, Dr. María “Cuca” Robledo Montecel, that gives tools for communities and schools to work together to strengthen school holding power and ensure success for all students.

This event is being held in conjunction with the latest release by IDRA of Texas attrition data. (see advisory)
