Essential Classroom Instructional Elements for Increasing Achievement

High expectations for all students is an essential factor for success in education and the workplace. Research shows that, when GESA concepts and key instructional strategies are implemented, all students gain and performance gaps narrow. In this webinar, you will learn essential classroom instructional elements based on research, observations and interviews, especially for working with diverse populations and with non-traditional students.

Highlights:

  • Examine the correlation between perceptions, expectations, behaviors and achievement and the implications for specific populations of students.
  • Review research-based areas of disparity in learning and working environments that have prevented some students from achieving, exploring nontraditional paths or pursuing their interests in a variety of classes and careers.
  • Get information on positive, supportive, motivational, instructional strategies designed to counter the areas of disparity and be used as data sources.
  • Get sample survey activities.

This introductory GESA session is designed especially for K-16 instructional staff, instructional coaches, administrators, professional developers, and ELL, Title I, Title IX and CTE coordinators at the local, regional and state levels.

About the Series: After participating in this overview webinar, you can sign up for a series of three in-depth training webinar sessions on the essential elements for increasing achievement. Participation in the series will be limited to those who have participated in this overview webinar. Series participants will receive a certificate of completion, authorizing you to lead turnkey training on the information provided, using the GESA booklet. You also will receive an official slideshow presentation for use in overviews and/or information meetings with administrators and other educators. The follow-up series topics are:

Session 1: • Instructional Participation and Engagement, and • Structure and Organization of the Learning Environment

Session 2: • Classroom Management and Discipline, and • Enhancing Self-Esteem, Self-Concept and Self-Efficacy

Session 3: • Evaluation of Performance and Qualitative Interactions (Higher Level Questioning and Analytical Feedback)

You Will Hear From: Dr. Dolores ( Dee ) Grayson is a nationally-recognized presenter, researcher and leader in educational equity and professional development. She is best known as the developer and principal author of the award-winning Generating Expectations for Student Achievement (GESA) program and numerous other GESA related training programs and materials. She has served as a consultant and external evaluator for several state- and federally-funded programs and school districts. She has presented workshops, provided technical assistance and keynoted conferences with teachers, administrators, board and community members with representative from all 50 states and 20 countries.
