High-quality public schools require fair funding to offer trained teachers, rigorous and engaging curriculum and materials, safe facilities and enriching opportunities. When we all contribute to our public schools, we all benefit. But Black and Latino students have often experienced unfair funding, even though local communities pay heavily into the public school system. This brief gives an introduction to the Texas school funding system and how racial inequities in educational opportunities and achievement are linked to unfair public school funding.
