Join our paid educator externship this summer! It is an immersive experience and partnership with local military and industry to support teachers’ understanding and practice of engaging students in future workforce skills and increase career-connected learning experiences for students of all ages. Teachers will learn more about Department of Defense careers in STEM as they earn a $1,200 stipend and 30 CPE hours!

The exact dates depend upon your placement, but all externship experiences will take place sometime in June – July 2025.

Aside from your job site assignment, we’ll meet virtually for check-ins and a virtual orientation prior to your placement beginning.
Event Description
Your externship placement with either be one week long (30 hours are earned Monday-Thursday in one week), or it could last multiple weeks (you could come in once a week, for four weeks, to earn your full 30 hours).
The scenario will depend on your placement, and we ask that you include your availability this summer 2025 in the fields below so we can match you with the right placement. Currently we have faculty-guided research positions in higher education institutions and industry placements with the U.S. Army Institute of Surgical Research, Southwest Research Institute, San Antonio River Authority, and other STEM-related organizations.

Application Process and Deadline
The last day to complete the interest form is April 18. Then we will review applicants and find the strongest match with our 10 industry placements. You may be invited to meet with externship supervisors as they decide on their final candidate(s). We hope to have decisions made by May 9, and candidates will be notified by email.
