In 2021, the Texas Legislature targeted transgender youth by considering over 75 bills comparted to 19 the previous session (which is still too many). House Bill 25 and Senate Bill 3 were designed to prohibit transgender and gender nonconforming students from participating in school sports teams. Such measures create unsafe school climates, harm students’ academic achievement, and arguably violate federal protections against gender-based discrimination.
This video gallery showcases students who testified against HB 25. The Texas House website has the full video with all testimony presented.
